Addictive?
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), these drugs are not "addictive" because a person doesn't "crave" them.
What a joke!
Psychiatrist, Peter Breggin, M.D. goes into detail about the clinical trials of many of these drugs in several of his books. If memory serves me right, Paxil had a six-week clinical trial.
Not long.
Also, it's important to keep in mind that half of the studies on any of these psychotropic drugs are tossed out, thrown away, never published, never see the light of day.
Interesting, the antidepressants tend to come in a few percentage points better than placebo. If you give the placebo (sugar pill)a built-in side effect, such as a dry mouth... the drug isn't any better than placebo!
Yet Pharma (aka, "Psychiatry"... they're on-in-the-same) has been able to market these drugs so clevery, that one in ten adults in the U.S. take an antidepressant... clinically no better than placebo, yet full of "side-effects" (actually, "effects" is a more appropriate term).
Tons of harmful effects, especially with pregnant women, newborns, children (sometimes toddlers), elderly (whose hearts shut down), and military service members and veterans who need real treatment - for war-related trauma.
The drugmakers need to do more than pay fines... Fines will not stop them. A half a billion here, another half a billion there is chump-change to them...
If memory serves me right, they were making 200 million per day on antidepressant sales (several years ago, it may be higher now)... That's not 200 million per week, or per month... that's per day!
They need to begin to have to set up withdrawal centers, and pay to provide the clinical support needed to help people slowly and safely withdrawal from these useles, but very harmful drugs...
It's time we stopped calling them "medications".
They are drugs!
Mind-altering, brain-damaging, body-injurying, spirit-numbing drugs!

Thanks for the post.

P.S.: Friends don't let friends join NAMI!
Duane,
Thank you so much for your comment. The evidence is available for those who look. The fraud and collusion it took to perpetrate these crimes is staggering.
What is truly scary is how many mental health professionals have NO problem with COERCION being used as a "treatment" strategy.
Don't get me started on NAMI...The Mental Health Transformation here in Washington State has been totally infected by this group with an agenda made to order for(by) the pharmaceutical industry.
John Breeding and I had the opporunity to see the NAMI crowd when we testified in the Texas legislature in 2009... both House and Senate committees.
NAMI gets money from the state, so they are not holding to legislative rules if they testify. It didn't stop the NAMI crowd from showing up, and having their voices heard.
They wanted more drugs, not less.... More psychiatry, not less.
It was an eye-opening experience for me... John Breeding has been testifying for years, so it didn't shock him. He has enormous passion about keeping these drugs away from children in Medicaid and foster care.
We had the opporunity to hear a young man who was in the foster care system... He broke loose from his label and the drugs, and was in a junior college, doing quite well!
In Texas, the majority of children in foster care are on psychotropics... And NAMI wants more drugs in the system.... Can you imagine?
To clarify, the 200 million per day that Pharma makes is on antidepressants alone (not money made from the other drugs, such as "mood stabilizers" (anticonvulsants) and "antipsychotics" (chemical lobotomies)!
In other words, each time Pharma is hit with a half a billion dollar fine, they can recover it in a couple of days, from antidepressant sales alone!
It's time they were ordered to put together some withdrawal centers.... Pharma and psychiatry cause the injury... Pharma and psychiatry can pay for withdrawal, and recovery!
Thanks for your blog... for getting the word out... for not being afraid to point the the U.S. Constitution... for being brave enough to speak the truth, in a mental health system gone mad!
My best,
Duane Sherry, M.S.
