Some could have told me I mis-spelled Virginia when I first posted this alert...well I got a heck of a laugh when I finally saw it.
FREE ALISON HYMES FROM WESTERN STATE HOSPITAL
Mental health activist and long time MindFreedom member Alison Hymes,
a resident of Charlottesville Virginia , has been held prisoner at
Western State Hospital in Staunton Virginia since early in August.
People who know Alison are very concerned about her health. Alison was
the recipient of a kidney transplant after she experienced kidney
failure due to lithium poisoning from psychiatric malpractice.
Although she is being looked after by a medical doctor now at the
hospital, it is feared that she may not be receiving the same level of
care in the state hospital system that she would be receiving in her
home community.
Alison is mostly restricted to her hospital unit right now. She has a
level 2 status now, slightly better than level 1 restricted status. At
level 2 a person can go on supervised walks around the hospital campus
with staff members. People with level 3 status have grounds
privileges, and can go where they want to around the hospital grounds.
Alison says that she has not been allowed to even go on a supervised
walk around the grounds recently, and she is wondering why her status
hasn’t been raised to include complete grounds privileges yet.
She says, “They are treating me really badly here”. When questioned
further on the subject she said the hospital staff were making fun of
her, and that she has heard staff members singing mockingly at her.
She says they have taken books and important papers away from her. She
also says that they have taken clothes away from her, and that she
doesn’t have enough clothing to wear that fit her.
MAIN ACTIONS.
Please contact the director of Western State Hospital and the Virginia
Commissioner of Mental Health.
Alison urges people who want to complain about how she is being
mistreated to write or to call Dr. Jack W. Barbour, the director of
Western State Hospital.
